Hey all. I have a couple of questions for the community here. First and foremost I would like to say that this sub has been more helpful than any other source I have found. Even as a lurker you guys and gals are so loving and I have seen that sentiment from sober friends where the moment they realize what I'm going through they completely understand and are so encouraging
I have been aware of the fact that I need to completely stop drinking for a couple of years now. I have made strides in cutting back and educating myself about my relationship with alcohol but feel like there are a couple of issues that still need to be sorted out.
I am 35 years old and live in Minnesota and work at a brewery. Strangely enough I don't find it difficult to abstain at work but the cravings hit me super hard after I have been home for an hour.
I would say I am in decent physical shape and have been tobacco free since December 28th of 2020. I find that I am more motivated to sober up when I focus on the negative impact my drinking has on people around me versus the fact that it is slowly but surely detiorating a lot of aspects of my personal life. Any advice about how to (for lack of a better term) be more selfish for my own personal gain would be much appreciated.
I understand that slowly rotating in healthy habits combats the unhealthy ones but it seems like such a long and unrealistic route to take. I have been binge drinking for most of my adult life but in the last 5 years it has gotten rather bad.
How can I get over the justification of having one binge night after weeks of success easier?
I believe I can completely sober up but fatty foods, sugars, etc don't seem to keep the cravings at bay. Has anyone else had a similar experience and if so would they care to share any advice?
I also smoke weed 4-5 nights out of the week and am nervous about using it as a crutch to help with not drinking. From what I've read you shouldn't try to quit multiple vices at once but I would love to hear from the people that quit both and how their journey was.
Today is day one again unfortunately but I believe I can do it. It just seems the two week mark relaxes my guard and then the counter resets each time.
I love and appreciate you guys. You are such a wonderful group of people.

2022.01.26 01:39 ApolloHemisphere Flashed BIOS (Gigabyte motherboard), now have black screen. Any solutions?

Some background - I just built my first PC and got to the BIOS screen, but I didn't see my m.2 SSD (Samsung SSD 970 EVO) in the m.2 section. I couldn't load Windows because the motherboard(Gigabyte Z690 UD) didn't recognize a destination drive.
I Googled around and saw that people had resolved this issue by updating their BIOS (something I haven't done before). I saw that my BIOS was only at F1, and the newest version was F5. I formatted a flash drive to FAT32, extracted the F5 BIOS, booted to BIOS, used the Q-flash feature, and let the BIOS update do its thing. It restarted, the update seemed to be successful, and it restarted again, but after that I'm only seeing a black screen. My monitor isn't even getting any input (it was before I updated BIOS, and I didn't touch the cables).
Does anyone have advice for next steps? I'm hoping I didn't just brick my motherboard...

We've been good friends for well over a year and have become closer during the second half of 2021. In December she confessed that she liked me and I admitted that I felt the same, and we've been on great terms since. Next week, if the covid situation doesn't get worse, we plan on going out for our first date.
But, I was wondering what some good dates ideas would be that aren't too physically stimulating. She has a medical condition that makes it difficult for her to partake in most physical activities for long periods of time. Hiking, long walks, sports, and so on are out of the question. My dog is a 10-year-old (I’ve had her since I was 12 and she moved in with me in my apartment in August), Boston TerrieBlue Heeler mix, about 30lbs. Last semester was perfectly fine because I was able to come home in the middle of the day (usually for a couple hours at a time) to let her out of her kennel and spend time with her. This semester, I’m a student teacher who commutes to a school 45 minutes away, so I’m usually away from home from 7:15am to 6:15pm. My partner has a pretty hectic work schedule, too, as he works before and after his classes, so he’s away from home around 7:30 to 6:30.
My partner’s work schedule will lighten up a bit in a week or two and I’ll be at a much closer school in 5 weeks, but I’m worried I’m leaving my dog alone and in her kennel way too long on the weekdays. She has a bit of separation anxiety, but she usually seems fine when I get home. Today she seemed a bit more depressed than usual, so now I’m getting pretty concerned. Giving her away is NOT an option, but any other advice is more than welcomed.

I'm a 49yo male, 5'9" and I weighed 380 pounds about 3 weeks ago. Losing a lot of weight is long overdue for me but I'm finally in the right frame of mind and sufficiently motivated to do it. Exercise is still tough at my current weight so I decided to get started by totally changing my diet (the "80/20" rule, right?). In the past three weeks, I've been able to lose 22 pounds by focusing on CICO and replacing all the garbage food I was eating with more healthy choices. On average, I've been eating about 1300-1500 calories a day and surprisingly, I don't feel like I'm starving myself although there have been some days when I feel like I could definitely eat a little bit more.
I'm not sure how accurate the various online BMRMR calculators are for people who are morbidly obese but https://tdeecalculator.net/, for example, tells me that I'd need to eat nearly 3000 calories/day (with an activity level of "sedentary") to maintain my current weight. Further, it says that my BMR alone is ~2500 calories/day! Apps like MyFitnessPal and LoseIt are suggesting that I should be eating ~2000 calories/day (which I think is based on losing 2 pounds/week). Should I be concerned that 1500 calories/day is too low and may end up causing me to plateau because I'm not supplying my body with enough energy? Sorry if this is a silly question but I'm trying to learn a lot about a subject that I've neglected for far too long!
